The Holy Quran and Plant prove the Righteousness of the Companions of the Prophet Mohammed
In my book, Miraculous Verses of the Holy Quran and the Plant Life, there was an article entitled: “A Seed Sending Forth its Shoot” on the scientific interpretation of the 29th verse of Surah 48: Al-Fat-h (The Victory).
Today, we will discuss another facet of the miraculous nature of this verse, which includes a flowering-plant proof that the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah be pleased with them, never originated heresies or distorted the religion. Instead, each of them was a messenger of the Messenger of Allah to a new place where he had reached and lived.
To be able to understand this scientific miracle and the Quranic plant proof, we are to be aware of the following:
. Types of reproduction of the seed plants:
Scientifically, there are two types of reproduction of the seed plants:
1. Sexual (seed) reproduction:
A male gamete (of a pollen grain) and a female gamete (of an ovule) fuse to produce a new plant whose the same hereditary characteristics of their parents.
Features of seed sexual reproduction:
· No hereditary Characteristics can be determined and no certain production results can be expected. Hereditary Characteristics can be changed, so a new plant may be of genetic characteristics and appearance different from those of its parents.
· The new plant will separate from the parent plant, and usually there will be no relation between them after the maturity of the seed and the grain. The new plant will neither be under the wing of the parent plant nor protect or strengthen it. Instead, the new plant would weaken its parent plant if it grew in the vicinity.
· It takes a long time till new plants flower and fruit, especially in the case of trees and bushes.
2. Asexual or vegetative reproduction:
Cuttings, buds, grafting, roots, stems, etc are among asexual methods of propagating seed plants.
Features of vegetative reproduction:
· New plants are of genetic characteristics and appearance which are identical to those of their parent plant.
· New plants are flowering and fruiting quickly, especially in the case of trees and bushes. This is because the “Flowering Hormone” is produced in tissues of the parent plant and passed to new plants (cf. my book, Miraculous Verses of the Holy Quran and the Plant Life).
· A new plant (shoot) strengthens and protects its parent plant.
. The miracle of the plant Quranic example:
Allah, glory and exaltation to Him, gives a miraculous Quranic scientific plant example depending on scientific Quranic proofs that the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, never originated heresies or distorted the religion. Instead, each of them led a life of adherence to the Prophet Muhammad's principles, faith, and behaviour. They also protected and supported him. Furthermore, they spread the religion to other places far from its origin (Mecca & Al-Madinah). Among these places are Andalus (Spain), Constantinople (Istanbul), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Persia (Iran), Tunisia, the Levant (Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon), Sudan, and Egypt, and every place they or there straight righteous followers have reached or will reach.
Allah, glory and exaltation to Him, says: (It is He Who has sent His Messenger with Guidance and the Religion of Truth, to proclaim it over all religion: and enough is Allah for a Witness. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other. Thou wilt see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer), seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks, (being) the traces of their prostration. This is their similitude in the Taurat; and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its shoot, then makes it strong; it then becomes thick, and it stands on its own stem, (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result, it fills the Unbelievers with rage at them. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds, Forgiveness, and a great Reward). (Verses: 28 & 29 of Al-Fat-h Surah)
Regarding the meanings, Quran Commentators have explained that:
“Sends forth its shoot” means:
· Different sprouts, surrounding a plant
· What emerged from the two sides of a plant
· Palm shoots
· A plant leaves
· A tree of many branches and twigs growing from it
· Trees which emerged from their origins
Ar-Ragheb Al-Asfahany, may Allah has mercy upon him, stated in Words of Quran the follwing meanings:
A shoot of a plant: sprouts of the plant, growing form its two sides.
Becomes thick: after it was thin.
Stands on its own stem: stands straightly on its origin and trunk.
Filling the sowers with wonder and delight: because of its strength, density, thickness and beauty.
Commentators also stated that:
Allah gives this example for the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah be pleased with them, as they were a few, at the beginning of Islam. Then, their number and strength were growing and they were promoting day by day, which filled people with wonder and unbelievers with rage at them.
Also commentators stated that:
It is mentioned in Bible that there would be people who would grow like plants, some of who would enjoin good and forbid evil. This is the same example that Allah gives for the beginning of Islam, its promoting and its growing strength. This is because the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, first started by himself, then Allah strengthened him by his companions.
Dr. Wahba Al-Zuhaily, may Allah protect him, has stated in the “Bright Commentary” that:
In (Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds,) Allah says (those among them) not to specify only some of them, but to specify the class, i.e. the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, because all of them are of the same mentioned feature. Other honest commentators, such as Al-Qurtuby, Al-Nasfy, Ebn Al-Anbary, and Ebn Katheer have stated similar commentaries. So keep this in mind.
. The miraculous scientific commentary of this verse:
This is a miraculous scientific example related to the plant life, given by Allah for the Prophet Muhammad (seed), peace be upon him, his companions (who was with him) and all righteous Moslems. So, Allah likens the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, to (a seed) and his companions to (its shoot), from which new plants and millions of green leaves grew.
According to the plant life, it is a scientific fact. In the case of annual monocotyledons belonging to the grass family (Poaceae or Gramineae) such as wheat, barley and rice, etc., the origins of food worldwide, the first stem grows lonely and weakly. After that, “Tileres” grow quickly from their “Lateral Buds” on double basal nodules, which grow directly underground. So, several (shoots), which exceed 50 shoots, grow from one original plant or one original stem.
Such shoots have the same characteristics of Vegetative (Asexual) Reproduction that we have mentioned before:
· They have the same hereditary characteristics of their parents
· They strengthen and protect their origins
· They fill the sowers with wonder
· They fill the unbelievers with rage at them
Also, palm trees have such characteristics; several palm shoots grow from their original palm tree.
This is exactly the example given in Quran; the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the original (plant), and his Companions, and Successors are the (shoots).
When farmers see shoots grow and surround their origins, they become filled with wonder, delight and calmness as they become assured that the roots of their (original) plant have gown and their leaves have strengthened. After a while, they see the ground is covered with several shoots, which are exactly like the origins. Then, thousands of flowers grow and bring forth fruits, seeds, and grains. In the case of some plants, one seed produces more than five thousand seeds, and “Allah giveth manifold increase to whom He pleaseth: and Allah careth for all and He knoweth all things.” (Verse 261 of Surah 2: Al-Baqarah 'The Heifer').
In the case of other genera of floral Monocotyledons such as the date palm and the doum palm, when leaves grow from stems, the stems strengthen and their diameters become thicker. Also, these plants bring forth several lateral shoots, which strengthen the original plant. Such shoots are identically of the same hereditary characteristics of their parents. The stem of banana tree grows from bases of leaves, which strengthen and protect the original plant. Also, its shoots have the same hereditary characteristics.
This is the example of the straight Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and all righteous Moslems as they follow the lead of him and avoid heresy. Their knowledge and behaviour depend on his verbal and practical Sunna, and they have transmitted this Sunna[1] as it is, without changing or distorting. They are of rectitude and trustworthy memory. According to scholars of Hadith[2], "A Sahih (sound) Hadith is the one which has a continuous isnad[3], made up of reporters of rectitude and trustworthy memory from similar authorities, and which is found to be free from any irregularities (i.e. in the text) or defects (i.e. in the isnad)."
They have honestly transmitted (and righteous Moslems are still transmitting) true knowledge (religion) to everyone and every place they reached and each of them was an image of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, in a new environment.
Tissue Culture is a method of the vegetative reproduction in which we plant a meristem vegetative tissue in an artificial nurturing environment. It produces new plants identical to the parent plant. So, we can propagate tens of thousands of plants identical to the parent plant, which proves that the Holy Quran is a unique miracle which always stand up to any attempt to refuting it.
Each of us can be (a shoot) that spread true religion via the Internet without changing or distorting. However, the most important things to keep in mind are to avoid irregularities and defects, i.e. to depend on true sources, to honestly transmit their information and facts, and to mention those sources.
So, the Vegetative (asexual) Reproduction is a proof of the rectitude and orthodoxy of the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah be pleased with them, and that they have honestly transmitted the true religion that they have learnt from the Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him. “And their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its shoot, then makes it strong; it then becomes thick, and it stands on its own stem, (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result, it fills the Unbelievers with rage at them.” (Verse: 29 of Al-Fat-h Surah).
The Companions of the Prophet Muhammad are similar to branches and twigs:
If the word (shoot) is meant to refer to branches bearing leaves, we can give another example of dicotyledons, such as mulberry, ficus, fig, sycamore, apple, pear, Poinciana, cassia, etc. Their main stem bears lateral buds, from which leaf and flower stems grow. A tree of one origin can bear thousands of buds producing thousands of branches of identical hereditary characteristics and appearance.
Without branches, a plant cannot strengthen, and its flowering, fruiting, and production will diminish:
Thus, the Prophet Mohammed is the origin; and his Companions and their orthodox successors are the branches and twigs surrounding the parent plant. If we transplant each branch in a new place, depending on the vegetative method, each of them will work just as well if it is the origin plant. This is a miraculous Quranic scientific example which makes clear the fact that the Companions of the Prophet Mohammed, may Allah be pleased with them, have followed his lead, without changing or distorting and that everyone who follows their example is of such esteemed rank.
The importance of branches and twigs:
· They strengthen the original plant
· They bear flowers and fruits
· They cast its shadow in the vicinity
· They are means of vegetative reproduction
The Companions of the Prophet Muhammad are of similar importance of leaves to a plant:
If the word (shoot) is meant to refer to (leaves), as some commentators stated, so we are to be aware of the facts that
· Leaves are the essence of the plant life
· They produce food for their plant
· They strengthen the plant
Leaves:
· Leaves exploit and maintain solar energy best on Earth.
· They purify environment of carbon dioxide (CO2) and produce oxygen (O)
· They maintain and exploit carbon dioxide. During photosynthesis in green plants (specifically in their leaves), light energy is captured and used to convert water, carbon dioxide, and minerals into oxygen and energy-rich organic compounds, used as food for such plants.
· They keep temperature on Earth suitable for living beings.
· They purify air, reduce pollution and temper the weather
· A leaf is a primary element in flowering, fruiting, and life as a whole.
So, The Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah be pleased with them, are the (branches and twigs), and the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the (origin and trunk).
Why is an example of (the plant life) specifically given?
· Plant is the essence of life on Earth. If there were no plant on Earth, there would be no food, no energy, no water exploiting, and no life on Earth at all.
· Life on Earth cannot continue without plant.
· There would be no real life without the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, his Companions and their orthodox successors till Judgment Day.
· Plant obtains its energy from the sky and connects it with the earth and environment.
· The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, received the Message, that he was to spread, from the heaven, which connects heaven with the earth and society.
· Plants maintain light energy on Earth. They transform light energy, difficult to be exploited directly by living beings, into chemical energy. Likewise, they exploit and maintain carbon dioxide.
· Likewise, the Prophet Mohammed has maintained the Inspiration, Allah's Light (Allah's Guidance, His Law and evidences), and has made it available to humankind.
· Plant is mentioned in the verse as a proof of the importance of Islam, the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, his Companions and all their orthodox successors till the Judgment Day to the sound life and wholesome balanced environment.
The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and plants:
· The human life depends on plant. Likewise, lives of bodies, souls, hearts and minds depend on the Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him.
· Plant provides the Earth with the essential constituents for the living beings. Likewise, the Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him, provides it with essential constituents for human beings to enable them to live on it in a sound way. “Give your response to Allah and His Messenger, when He calleth you to that which will give you life.” (Surah 8: Al-Anfal, 'The Spoils of War').
A miraculous example:
One who scientifically, rationally and lawfully think, analyze, and meditate on this example can realize that it is actually a miraculous scientific Quranic example. He/she will be persuaded of the orthodoxy and rectitude of the Companions of the Prophet Mohammed, may Allah be pleased with them, of their importance to spreading the Message of Islam, and of their supporting and strengthening the Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him. The following verses also prove this fact.
Regarding the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah be pleased with them, Allah, glory and exaltation to Him, says:
“Those who believe, and adopt exile, and fight for the Faith, in the cause of Allah, as well as those who give (them) asylum and aid, these are (all) in very truth the Believers: for them is the forgiveness of sins and a provision most generous.” (Surah 8: Al-Anfal, 'The Spoils of War').
Also, regarding the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad and their orthodox successors, may Allah be pleased with them, Allah, glory and exaltation to Him, says:
“The vanguard (of Islam), the first of those who forsook (their homes) and of those who gave them aid, and (also) those who follow them in (all) good deeds, well-pleased is Allah with them, as are they with Him: for them Hath He prepared Gardens under which rivers flow, to dwell therein forever: that is the supreme Felicity.” (Surah 9: Al-Tawba, 'The Repentance').

The life of plant in the light of Qur'an and Sunnah and Modern Science
| ||
Professor Doctor : KamalAl-DeenAl-Batanony Professor in Plants section, And a former Procurator in scientific academy, University of Cairo The germination, emergence from earth and flowering of plants, had the privilege of being mentioned in several verses of the Holy Qur’an. And It’s an eye-catching that the mentioning of the emergence of the plant from earth came mostly in Holy Makkahverses. This mentioning of the plants was not merely for the sake of counting Allah's blesses, it came in verses related to the process of creation revival resurrection and raising from the dead, as well as in verses that urge people on insight meditation prudence and consideration. It also came in verses that annul what disbelievers deny from Allah's ability to revive and create the living from the dead and the dead from the living and raise people from their tombs after their death and destruction. The phenomenon that is an eye-catching and requires consideration and contemplation is the conjugation between creation and resurrection of man with the creation of plants in several verses. Many of the verses of Qur’anassert the unity between origins of life on this earth and that the process of plant germination and growth is a model of resurrection after death and destruction, Allah Almighty says:"And among His Signs, that you seethe earth barren and desolate; but when We send down waterthereon, it is stirred and swelled. He Who gives itlife , surely, is able to give life to the dead. Indeed! He is Able to do all things." [Fussilat: Verse39] The Holy Qur’anis rich by verses that are related to this issue of emergence in the sense of resurrection and revival and they are more than thirty verses in twenty three Chapters. First: Where the word "akhraja" (brought forth or raising out) with its derivatives carrying this meaning are mentioned. Most of these verses relate the emergence and growth of plant to the resurrection and raising, asserting that the emergence of the living from the dead is interconnected with plants and human-beings. In this study we display the Holy verses in which the word "akhraja" (bring forth) or its derivatives were mentioned in relation to plants, and the verses that deal with the revival of earth as well as these that connect between the emergence, resurrection and revival of the plant, and between the emergence of the dead from the living and the living from the dead. Then we will try to relate this to what we know of the sciences of plants and environment. In this aspect we should clarify that we are not one of those who try to hold themselves witnesses on the validity of Allah's (the blessed and the almighty) words through our knowledge which is vulnerable to breach and error. However, our insight through Allah's signs, triggered us to reflect upon them, and His creations in this vast universe and to consider the issue of the connection between the emergence of the plant from earth, the revival of earth and between resurrection and raising of the dead as established by Qur’an. It is a matter worth meditation and studying for all the inimitability that surround it which we can not apprehend. We perform this study believing that what science achieves and what scientists reach from knowledge is merely compliance to Allah's order of reflection on His creations; believing that no matter how much knowledge we reach about several phenomena, we are by all means incapable of revealing their secrets that only Allah knows. First: verses in which the word "akhraja" (brought forth) or its derivatives in relation to plants are mentioned: We will study the Holy verses that are related to the emergence of plants and the inimitability associating it. This came in ten locations in Holy Qur’anas following: “Allah is He Who created the heavens and the earth and sent down water from the sky, thereby brought forth fruits as a sustenance for you; and He made the ships subservient to you, that they may sail through the sea by His Command; and He made the rivers subservient to you." [Ibrahim: Verse32] “Who has made the earth a resting place for you, and the sky as a canopy, and sent down water from the sky and brought forth therewith of the fruits as a sustenance for you. Then do not set up rivals unto Allah (in worship) while you know (the truth).” [Al-Baqara: Verse22] "Do you not see that Allah sends down water from the sky, With it We then bring out produce of various colours. and among the mountains are streaks white and red, of various shades of colour, and (others) intensely black?" [Fatir: Verse 27] "And We send down from the rainy clouds water pouring forth abundantly, Thereby to bring forth grain and plant, And luxury dense gardens." [Al-Naba’:Verses14-16] " Do you not see, that Allah sends down water from the sky, then makes it go along in the earth in springs, afterward thereby produces crops of different colours, then it withers and then you see them turn yellow, then He makes them dry and broken pieces. Verily, in this, is a Reminder for men of understanding." [Az-Zumar:Verse21] "Have they not seen how We drive water (rain clouds) to the barren land, and therewith bring forth crops which their cattle and themselves eat, Will they not then see? * And They say: "When will this victory be ( between us and you ), if you are truthful" [As-Sajdah:Verses27-28] "And the earth after that He spread it * He brought forth therefromits waterand its pasturage;" [Al-Nazi’at: Verses30-31] "And Who broughtforth the pasturage* And then makesit darkstubble" [Al-Ala:Verses4-5] " Who has made the earth for you like a carpet spread out; and made for you therein paths; and has sent down water (rain) from the sky. then we have brought forth with it pairs of various plants * Eat and pasture your cattle; verily in this there are signs for those endowed with minds."[Ta-ha : Verse 53-54] "It is He Who sends down water from the sky, then we have brought forth with it plants of all kinds, and out of it We brought forth green crops, from which We bring forth thick clustered grain. And out of the datepalm and its sheaths come forth clusters of dates hanging low and near, and gardens of grapes, olives and pomegranates, each similar (in kind) yet different (in variety and taste). Look at their fruits when they begin to bear, and the ripeness thereof. Verily! In these things there are signs for people who believe." [Al-An’am:Verse 99] These Holy verses link between the descent of water from the sky and the bringing out of the plant from earth. It is a phenomenon that takes place every day and is known by all humans. But the role that water plays in the emergence of the plant, its growth and its biological and physiological operation is something that science discovered only recently. In this introduction we are not about to discuss this role as we can’t cover all of its aspect fairly without drifting from the thesis of our current study. However, it is without doubt a theme worth studying and meditation. In the previously mentioned verses, The Creator (Greatis He) speaks about His ability in bringing out the plant from earth which is nothing but a revival of this earth. Allah says: "A Sign for them is the dead land : We do revive it, and we brought forth from it grains , so that from it they eat." [Ya-Seen: Verse 33] Second: the verses in which brought forth came with the meaning of resurrection and revival: brought forth - i.e. resurrection raising and revival- came in seven locations in the Holy Qur’an. Allah the Most High says: "And among His Signs is that thesky and theearth stand by His Command: then afterwardswhen He calls you, by a single call, behold, you will come out from the earth"[Al-Rom:Verse 25] "And those who disbelieved say: "if we were dust, and our fathers, shall we certainly be brought forth?" [Al- Naml:Verse 67] " Does he promise youthat when you dieand have become dust and bones, you shall brought forth? " [Al-Mu'minun: Verse 35] " He said: "Therein shall youlive, and therein shall you die; and from it shall you be brought forth." [Al-A’raf:Verse 25] " Thereof We created you, and into it We shall return you, and from it We shall bring you forth once again.." [Ta-ha:Verse 55] We see that the last verse came after the one in which Allah mentions that: ". then we have brought forth with it pairs of various plants" And Allah the Most High says: "And Allah has made you grow out of the earth as a growth, "then He returns you into it, and bring you forth a (new) bringing forth?" [Noah: Verses 17-18] Third:verses that link between the plant, resurrection and revival: These verses came in three Chaptersof the Holy Qur’an and they link between bringing forth plants, resurrection and revival, asserting this resemblance clearly. Allah, Great is His affair, says: "And It is He Who sends the winds as heralds of glad tidings, before His mercy Till when they have carried a heavy-laden cloud, We drive them to a land that is dead, then We cause waterto descend thereon. Then We bring forth with it every kind of fruit. Similarly We shall bring forth the dead , so you may remember." [Al-A’raf: Verse 57] "And Who sends down water from the sky in due measure. Then We revive a dead land therewith, even so you will be brought forth" [Az-Zukhruf:Verse 11] The resemblance between plant germination and brought forth is clarified in the following Holy verses: "And We send down blessed water from the sky, then We cause to grow thereby gardens and grains that are reaped.* And tall (and stately) date-palms, with ranged clusters; * A sustenance for (Allah's) slaves. And We give life therewith to a dead land. Thus will be the bringing forth." [Qaf:Verses 9-11] Fourth:verses in which the bringing forth the living out of the dead and the dead out of the living is mentioned: In theses verses the ability of the Creator, the Evolver and the Fashioner (Great and sublime is His affair) materialize in His raising of life from death and in placing His secret in inanimate non-living elements to form components that pulse with life. Allah great is His affair says: "He brings out the living from the dead, and brings out the dead from the living. And He revives the earth after its death. And even so shall you be brought forth (resurrected)." [Ar-Rum: Verse 19] In the context about creation and revival follows this verse in which Allah the Most High says:"And among His signs is this, that He created you from dust, and then - behold you human beings, ranging widely!" [Al-Room:Verse 20] This Quranic verse from SurrahAl-An’amassociates plant germination, growth and emergence with the emergence of the living from the dead and the dead from the living. Here Allah, Great is His affair and supreme is His ability, says: "It is Allah Who causes the seedgrain and the datestone to split and sprout. He brings forth the living from the dead, and it is He Who brings forth the dead from the living. Such is Allah, then how are you deluded away from the truth?" [Al-Anaam: Verse 95] Studying the processes in which the living components inside a plant's body are built up from non-living simple elements, as well as studying the decomposition of the plants - all plants - to its initial form/state as non-living elements, that will help us to meditate these Holy verses. If scientists manage to know the chemical, biological and physiological courses in which a mergence of non-living elements to form living components takes place, they are still and will always be unable to understand the Godly secret in raising life in these components. Fifth:Germination, plant emergence, death and decomposition in the light of modern science. In brief and in a style as much as possible voided of technical terminologies, we will try to display this processes in the light of what science reached. This should help us sense and feel the Godly inimitability before which all human sciences stand handcuffed amazed surrounded to Allah the One and Subdue. In our discussion of germination we should present a short briefing about the structure of the seed. and The most important component of the seed the Embryo, which consists of the epicotylwhich constitutes the plant's shoot system, and the radical, which usually forms the root system of a plant, and a cotyledon or two mostly, that may contain stored nutritional substances, These nutritional substances may be stored outside it in what is known as the Endoplasm. These stored substances may be carbohydrates or proteins or fats or a combination of all in different proportions that vary according to the plant's type. The seed is wrapped by a coat known as the Testa, which has a hole called Hilusand which represents the entrance which water accesses the seed. The size of the seed can be big or so tiny. This seed contains a viable embryo, at which the chemical and biological and physiological processes reach their lowest rate due to the decrease of its water content. The seed remains in this state for periods that differ according to the plant's type till the germination conditions are available, the most importance of which is the presence of water.
After this, the process of germination begins. This is represented through a sequence of steps that starts with the absorption of water, that will lead to the swelling of the seed and rupture of its coat. The presence of water allows a chain of interrelated chemical reactions such as the dissolving of enzymes and its stirring to perform its function in breaking down stored materials to dissolved elements on which the embryo feeds to continue its cell division and elongation. This leads to the emergence of the radical and the epicotyls. If we leave this germinating seed in darkness, it will germinate to a certain level depending on the quantity of the stored nutritional elements. In this case, the epicotyls and whatever leaflets they produce will be pale yellow. Then germination will stop as the stored nutritional substances will be consumed as a result of the respiration process. Despite providing it on constant basis with water with all the containing of dissolved non-organic materials, the fate of such a plant will be death by all means. In this case, germination will not be successful as it does not satisfy its main aim - the formation of a full grown plant that blossom and give a fruits - unless it is exposed to light, and its epicotyls emerge to earth's surface. Then the most amazing process on earth takes place: the formation of chlorophyll and green plastids- i.e. the beginning of photosynthesis. The green plastids are citoplasmatictiny organs that have sophisticated geometrical structure, and unto which Allah endowed the ability to benefit from light energy, represented by the sun as its main source, and to convert this energy to chemical energy. Exposing the green plant to sunlight for a fraction of a second makes these plastids and what it contains from chlorophyll to initiate their functions. Without getting into scientific details, it would be hard for a human to imagine the existence or establishment of a life without this absorption of radial energy and its conversion into chemical energy. This is because the capturing of such energy and the processes that follow lead to the conversion of carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates, that form a main source of energy in the cells, and form row materials to establish proteins fats and other plant structures. In addition to the carbon dioxide the plant takes from water or air, and the water it absorbs from its environment, plants absorb some non-organic substances and structures that are dissolved in water. This means that the majority of what the plant takes from its environment is non-organic elements and components. In spite of this fact, these substances and structures mix with the carbohydrates produced by photosynthesis, during a number of complicated processes to form the living units inside the plant's body. All these plants which we see or do not see by the bare eye are nothing but clusters of living substances - i.e. protoplasm and its components - The creation of this living material from non-organic substances takes place continuously in plant with every blink of an eye. The growth of the plant in size or weight stands as a solid evidence on this, as these additions are made up by the formation of the living substance in the plant's body established from non-living substances. Though we can see the aspects of this process of creation and revival and though we may know some of its courses; yet the spring of life in these components remains a Godly secret that we can not realize. If modern science managed to manufacture and establish some organic structures from non-organic ones, it remains incapable of reviving these substances or bringing life unto them. Man has no hand in the courses of the decent of water and the germination, growth and blossoming of plants. He can only see and feel them. He can smooth the earth for the seedlings, water and nurture them. However, these courses of interaction, the formation of substances and the building up of living clusters inside the plant, are all issues that only the Capable Creator can handle. Perhaps this bond between plants and resurrection springs from the special nature Allah endowed upon plants, for they are the only creatures to which Allah gave the ability to form their living bodies from not only inanimate but also non-organic constituents. This is what modern science identifies as auto-nutrition. The nutrition in all other creatures that do not contain enzymes is mostly depending on others to supply them with ready-made food. Every plant and human being shall taste death by all means. The reasons of death may vary but the result is one. The decomposition process initiates in the organic bodies of these creatures when they die, through many different types of micro-organisms which Allah gives the ability to excrete quantities of different types of enzymes despite their tiny size. Such enzymes work on breaking down the substances of complex structures of carbohydrates or fats or proteins. The products of the decomposition processes in any creature include carbon dioxide that returns to air, and water that returns to its initial state, as well as the ashes that is made up of non-organic structures originally absorbed by the plant from the soil and was transferred from a plant to an animal or to a man that eats it. In this way, substances circulate from the surrounding environment to the plant then to the environment again. The cycle may be prolonged as a body of an animal or more, or that of a man joins the process, till the cycle ends with the environment again. This clarifies the cycles of substances like carbon, dioxide, nitrogen, phosphor, sulphur etc.. , as the living decompose non-living substances are produced. Thus, we can feel the miracle of the Holy Qur’anthat, more than fourteen centuries ago, presented new criteria human had no knowledge of and which human shall remain ignorant of many of its aspects. For instance, this connection between the process of revival with bringing forth and resurrection is one of the issues that secular science did not notice, despite its frequent mentioning in the Holy verses that assert such a bond and that differentiates between the establishment of the plant and the resurrection of man. In the end we faithfully pray that our meditate of these subjects would turn out to be an enlightenment and reminder to all Allah's repentant slave. Palmae dactylifere (Dates)
| ||
Allah The Almighty said to Maryam (Mary) (Peace be upon her): (And shake towards thyself the trunk of the palm-tree:It will let fall fresh ripe dates upon thee.) Many Hadiths told about the favours and benefits of dates. The prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) used to break his fast with some fresh dates before praying, and here appears the prophetic guidance: When fasting, a person relies on the sugar stocked in his body and especially that is stocked in the liver. The sugar obtained from the food taken just before starting the fast (i.e. ALSUHUR) lasts for six hours and then the body uses the sugar kept in the liver. When a person breaks his fast with dates, rich in monosaccharides, those arrive quickly to the liver and then to the blood which carries the nutrients to the other organs, whereas the person who fills up his stomach with food and drinks needs 2 to 3 hours to his intestines to absorb the sugar. Dates and milk are a complemented complete food and numerous Bedouins live on dried dates and goats’ milk but are fit, healthy and less susceptible to chronic and malign illnesses. (1) Dates also strengthen and increase the contraction rate of the uterus during the delivery and this is why Allah said to the pure lady Maryam: (And shake towards thyself the trunk of the palm-tree: It will let fall fresh ripe dates upon thee.) It was reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said: “Feed your women with dates as those who are fed with dates will have forbearing children” Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: the prophet (PBUH) said: “Indeed in dates?? there is a cure”. Reported by Muslim (14/3) and Ahmad (6/152) It is a Sunna to break the fast with dates. The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Whoever finds dates should break his fast with them and the one who does not should break his fast with water because it is pure” Science has proved the benefits of dates, some of which are: The active contents: 1) Dates contain a high percentage of carbohydrates which are the main source In addition to their content of spadix: 1) Sucrose Medical and health benefits of Dates: 1) Help in the treatment of Anaemia thanks to their iron content
Dates and the protection from poison and envy: It was reported by Abu Naaim, Abu Daoud, Al Hakem, Al Imam Al Tarmithi and mentioned in The book of Al Imam Al Thahabi “The Prophetic Medicine” that the Prophet (PBUH) said: “ The one who eats 7 dates in the morning will be protected that day from poison and envy” Concerning the first part i.e. poisons: Scientific experiments found that when poisoned, there is an increase in an enzyme produced in the liver that acts as an anti poison. If the levels of this enzyme are measured after being poisoned they would be high whereas when taking 7 dates daily for a month, the levels of this enzyme were found to decrease and return to normal, and if this is followed for a year no increase will result from being poisoned and this means that at that point the body is cured and protected against poisons. For this reason, when the Prophet (PBUH) ate from the poisoned lamb in Khaibar -Allah told him that the shoulder part was poisoned- the prophet had the 7 dates that morning and so the poison did not affect him but was kept underneath the skin in the fat layer and the Prophet did a venesection (Hijama) to remove it. TELEPATHY, a British scientific organisation researched the Hadith saying that the pressed dates are a cure from poison; research was also done in the King Fahd Ben Abd Alaaziz University and all experiments agreed with the Hadith. Through some experiments conducted on humans, it was found that people who are exposed to poisons such as those who deal with lead in butteries industry and suffer from the problem of Cadmium, which is a heavy element and causes renal failure which results in various serious problems, can avoid that risk by taking 7 dates in the morning. For those who took the dates no detoxification elements were found in the liver and there is a 120 researches published on that. In this same field the Jewish researcher Goldman found that 7 dried dates will make the heavy metals when inside the body form complexes some of which are kept beneath the skin and some get solvated and expelled in the excrement and urine. his operation is called detoxication or anti-poison which is done from pvessed date. Concerning magic: The Telepathy group, who publish its findings in a periodic named “Telepathy”, analysed the spectra of the digested pressed dates and found that it gives a blue colour which remains for 12 hours. They said also that the eye is the one which is bewitched, so magic is not a change in the nature of things but is a an imagination and the eye is what being bewitched exactly as Allah said in the Holy Koran: ( Said Moses: throw ye (first). So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic.) SURAH AL AL A`RAF (16). And said about Moussa (Moses) (PBUH) At last they found that the eye gets bewitched and that this magic force affects all the colours except blue, and so having 7 dates in the morning protects the person from magic and from envy... From it We produce green substance out of which We produce grains upon each other
| |
Allah (SWT) ordained that plants, people and animals receive their food from what plants produce in their green factories. These green factories are built up by the plant at the beginning of its growth and are called by botanists “Chloroplasts” which contain the chlorophyll which the Qur’an calls “Al-Khadir” (green substance), where the plant utilizes the light energy and changes it into chemical energy leading ultimately to the production of various kinds of grain, fruit and other parts of vegetation that we see in gardens and fields. The Qur’an draws our attention to these facts in the Saying of Allah (SWT): (It is He who sends down water (rain) from the sky. With it We produce vegetation of all kinds from which (water or plants) We produce green substance (Khadir), out of which We produce grain in clusters. And out of date-palms, from their spathes come forth clusters of dates hanging low and near, and (We produce) gardens of grapes, olives and pomegranates, each similar (in leaves or shape), yet different (in fruit and taste). Look at (and think over) their fruits when they begin to bear fruit, and (look at) the ripeness thereof. Behold! In these things there are Signs for people who believe.) (VI: 99) Thus, these green factories appear in the plant at the beginning of its growth. The plant is produced from its seed or part of its body by means of water. Allah (SWT) sends rain down from the sky to produce with it vegetation of all kinds, and from the plant He produces these green factories that produce the substances necessary to produce grain, fruit and all the other parts of the plant. Yet this fact was not uncovered to people till 1600 AD, after 300 years of research, when botanists carried out numerous researches and experiments in the field of botanical physiology to understand the process of photosynthesis. In 1804 AD, De Saussure proclaimed that there are two types of gas exchange: one type takes place in the light, the other in the dark, and that it is the green parts of the plant that absorb CO2 and release O2 in the presence of light. Then there proceeded continuous discoveries in this field. In 1942 AD Meyer said that the original source of energy used by plants and animals is the sun and that the light energy absorbed by plants is converted into chemical energy through photosynthesis. 961 AD Glass said that the most significant compounds involved in the process of converting the light energy into chemical energy in plants are the pigments found inside the chloroplasts or “pigment carriers”. The plant starts photosynthesis by means of these components and organelles. All this results in producing carbohydrates which are involved in complex biological processes that produce the raw material for the cellular wall, amino acids, proteins, lipids, hormones, pigments, …etc. These substances are the essential matter to make all the plant parts which people and animals feed on. Aspects of the miracle: Scholarly researchers in the field of plant physiology have discovered that the green substance (the chloroplasts) absorbs the light energy and converts it into chemical energy to produce various fruits. This discovery was realized after continuous studies and various experiments that lasted for three centuries, up to the twentieth century. This process of producing grain, fruits and trees was an unknown secret hidden deep in the thycloids of the chloroplasts that cannot be seen with the naked eye and which have been known by botanists only after a prolonged series of continuous researches and studies carried out by scholars over several centuries. And only after methods of precise scientific investigation were available that they ultimately declared that in the plant there is a green substance and that it is this substance that produces carbohydrates that constitute the basic matter for producing all types of fruit, tree and vegetation. This is what the Holy Qur’an decided fourteen centuries ago and was conveyed by an illiterate Prophet who lived in a desert environment among an illiterate nation at a time when no equipment of scientific research were available. The Verse of the Holy Qur’an could have done without mentioning the “green substance” and nobody would have objected to that, except one that knew the fundamental role of that substance. However, its mention implies that the one who mentions it knows well its main role in the production of grain, fruit and all tree and vegetation. How great it is of the Holy Qur’an to mention the truth and guide people on the road to find out the secret, by saying: (Look at (and think over) their fruits when they begin to bear fruit and (look at) the ripeness thereof.) It draws the attention to the beginning of the fruit formation and its relation with ripeness whereupon no more fruits are produced because the leaves of some plants turn yellow and their cells die. Who, then, informed Muhammad (Peace be upon him) of this fact? Muhammad, the illiterate Prophet, who lived in an illiterate culture, at a time when the simplest instruments were not available, let alone possessing the advanced instruments and research centers and laboratories in the field of plant physiology that are required to discover these facts. The existence of this precise botanical information in the Qur’an proves that it is from Allah, Who says: (But Allah bears witness to that which He has sent down to you. He has sent it down with His Knowledge, and the angles bear witness, and Allah is sufficient as a witness.) (IV: 166) R. Abed Al Majeed Al Zanadanee Reference : www.aliman.org |

There is a big resemblance between human life cycle and that of plant life cycle since Allah the Most Sublime creates inside the plant's body organic elements from non-organic ones during photosynthesis. These non-organic substances, absorbed from the soil by the plant, maybe the remains of a decomposed plant or animal. In the same way, Allah the Most High is capable of re-creating man after his decomposition like he created him in his initial state with his organs and members.
